My favorite Dutch Oven Recipes
Chili (feeds 6):
- 2 2/3 cups boiling water
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 3 1/3 cup of Worthington GranBurger (available at Shaw's)
- 1 package of Wick Fowler's chili mix (or Shelby's or ...)
- 1 4.5oz tube of tomato paste
- add more water as needed
- Optional: Instant Mexican Refried Beans (add more water)
Dump Cake (feeds 6) (needs 10or12"Dutch Oven)(B. Hickox)
- 1 pkg yellow cake mix
- 1 lg can sliced peaches in heavy syrup
- 1 stick butter/margarine
- some cinnamon
DIRECTIONS:
- pre-heat Dutch Oven, ~300-350
- dump in cake mix
- slice butter on top of cake mix
- dump in peaches
- cook ~35min, don't check fo 20 min.
- bake until golden brown
Hot Fudge Cake (feeds 6)(needs 12" Dutch Oven w/baking dish)(from Hershey's)
Mix (in bowl) (you can pre-measure & store in a baggie)
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 3 tbs cocoa
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Blend in:
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup cooking oil (may use melted butter/margarine)
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Beat until smooth, pour into 9" dia x 2" high round pan
Mix (you can pre-measure & store in a baggie)
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (tightly packed)
- 4 tbs cocoa
Sprinkle over previous mix, Pour
- 1 1/4 cups Hot Water over top of both mixtures
Bake 35-40 minutes @ 375, until center is almost set, let stand 15 minutes
spoon out from bottom, top w/whipped topping or vanilla ice cream
Lazy Lasagna (feeds 6) (12" Dutch Oven)(D.Cavanaugh)
- 2-1lb. box Lasagna noodles
- 2 lg. Jar Spaghetti sauce w/meat & seasoning
- 2-32oz cont. ricotta cheese
- 1 lbs. provolone
- 1 lbs. mozzarella
- 2 cups water
DIRECTIONS:
- layer ingredients in dutch oven, from bottom: sause,pasta,sauce,cheeses; repeat
- finish w/mozz. & prov. on top
- add water
- bake until bubbly (`45 minutes)
- serve w/parmesan & garlic bread
String Bean Casserole (feeds 6) (12" Dutch Oven)
- 2 cans string beans
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can fried onions
DIRECTIONS:
- in baking dish, mix beans & soup
- top w/fried onions
- heat in oven ~30 min @ 350
Spinach Casserole (feeds 6)(M.Cavanaugh,D's g-g'mother)
- 2 lbs. hamburger, browned & crumbled
- 2 pkgs white sauce, mix prior to assembling
- 1/4 lb cooked & crumbled bacon
- 2 pkgs. frozen chopped spinach, thawed
- 1 lbs. shredded cheese (chedder is good)
DIRECTIONS:
- mix together in pyrex baking dish:
- meats, spinach, & sauce
- top w/cheese
- bake in Dutch Oven @350, until cheese starts to brown
French Onion Soup (feeds 6) (10" or 12"Dutch Oven)
- 4 envelopes French Onion Soup Mix
- enough Italian or French bread to 1/2 fill oven
- 2 lbs. grated Swiss Cheese
DIRECTIONS:
- in Oven, mix soup according to recipe on Box EXCEPT:use enough water to 3/4F fill oven
- tear up bread into 1" cubes
- stir bread into soup
- make sure bread gets fully sturated
- cover soup with cheese
- make sure cheese doesn't touch lid
- bake in Dutch Oven @350, until cheese starts to brown
